Editorial Assessment

$0.012 per word or $40 per hour

You get:

  • Full read-through of your manuscript
  • Follow-up editorial letter with an in-depth assessment of your story
  • Broad suggestions for rewrites on a structural level, i.e. optimizing plot, characterization, scene execution, adding/removing/modifying scenes, consistent craft issues

WHEN DO I USE THIS?

This is the first step to editing a book. One of our developmental editors will read it through, making notes, and prepare a letter for you with the most important issues to fix before editing ensues. This step allows your editor to get familiar with your story and the editorial issues that will have to addressed. It also allows you to cut entire scenes, write new ones, or change characters and plot, all with the guidance of an editor trained in storytelling principles. If you want your story to be fully edited, then this step is the starting point.

WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO DO THIS STEP?

We can proceed directly to developmental editing if you are confident that your story is fine the way it is. Skipping this step means you will not have the opportunity to alter your story radically during the editing process as the focus will be on line-by-line development.
